1. Who You Are

Your first sentence should be an introduction to who you are professionally, an overview statement that shows off your strengths and gives a little sense of your personality too. This is not easy to do gracefully on the fly. It pays to prepare a bit in advance.

Good: “I’m an innovative HR manager with 8 years of experience managing all aspects of the HR function — from recruiting to training to benefits — for Fortune 500 companies.”

Concisely summarizes diverse background.

Bad: “Well, I grew up in Cincinnati. As a child, I originally wanted to be a fireman, then later became interested in dinosaurs. I excelled in the sciences from early on, placing first in my fourth-grade science fair. Funny story about that…”

Way too much information.

2. Expertise Highlights

Don’t assume that the interviewer has closely read your resume and knows your qualifications. Use your elevator pitch to briefly highlight 2-4 points that you think make you stand out.

Good: “I have spent the last six years developing my skills as a customer service manager for Megacompany Inc., where I have won several performance awards and been promoted twice. I love managing teams and solving customer problems.”

The emphasis here is on experience, enthusiasm, and proof of performance.

Bad: “My first job was as an administrative assistant for Macy’s in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I learned a great deal in that role that served me well over the next 12 years. At the time, I wasn’t sure about my career path, so I next took a position selling real estate. It only lasted for six months, but I sure enjoyed it.”

Zzzzzzz. Nobody cares about your first job 12 years ago. You are starting with the least impressive part of your career and the interviewer is likely to tune out before you get to the good stuff.

3. Why You’re Here

End by telling them you want the position and why.

Good: “Although I love my current role, I feel I’m now ready for a more challenging assignment and this position really excites me.”

Concise and positive.

Bad: “Because of the company’s financial problems and my boss’s issues, I’m worried about my job’s stability and decided to start looking for new opportunities.”

Don’t be too candid or you risk coming across as negative. This answer also makes it seem like you’re interested in a job, any job — not this job in particular.

Remember: You will have time later to walk through your resume in more detail and fill in any gaps. Don’t try to squeeze in too much information or your interviewer WILL start to tune out.

4. Answer samples for freshers

Tell me about yourself is something really important to take seriously and work accordingly.

Points to remember before you attend this interview question:

• Assume, now you are sitting in front of the HR manager.
• Take the initiative to attend this question and tell your real answersanswers.

Some tips I'm sharing, Hope this could be helpful (Must follow this sequence) :

• Good Morning Sir/Ma'am.
• Never forget to mention your Name. (If interviewer told you ‘Ram’ Tell me about yourself, in that case also you have to mention your name like - My name is Ram)
• From where You belongs. (Your current location and your home address)
• About your Education. (What are you pursuing and Whatever you have done,From Which College not necessary to mention your school education)
• Family Background (No need to tell your parents name,not there education, only about there current status like if business, govt. Job etc., Siblings Current Status)
• Hobbies.(Must describe it in very well)
• Past experience (Internship, job etc. What lessons you learnt from there)
• Awards, Achievements.
• Goal.

Note: This must be complete in 2 to 3 minutes, not more than this.

5. Answer samples for manager levels

Here are some tips to consider when creating a persuasive personal pitch:

a. Previous Job Experience in a Nutshell

Introduce your professional story briefly. Try to keep past career experiences short and focus more on current experiences, which will allow you to speak directly as a leader. When doing this, refrain from talking about personal details. To support your claims add some examples of specific accomplishments as a leader!

b.  Explain your Unique Selling Points (USPs)

Make sure you do your homework on the company’s history and its recent business model. Keeping this in mind explain in a sentence or two what your hard and soft skills are and how they will serve as an asset to the organisation. This calls for mentioning your technical, subject-area expertise and leadership skills. Examples could include your passion for communicating, educating and mentoring to positively impact team morale.

c. Connect it All Together

Finally, the time has come to unite your experience and expertise with that of the employers and show them how your abilities can drive their goals. Tell them briefly how you view yourself contributing to the company’s mission and how your screening abilities have been able to aid you in building a team from scratch. This is the moment where you can talk about your hard-earned achievements, how you lead your team through uncertain times, juggling between sensitive matters such as letting go an underperforming employee or shifting duties amongst team members.

d. Ask a Question

Finish your answer by asking a question to keep the conversation flowing, something like ‘What qualities does the ideal person need for this role?’

Now that you have these handy tips, write your pitch down and practice. Read it out loud, practice it on friends and family and make sure you don’t exceed 60 seconds. Knowing it by heart will allow you to feel far more relaxed during the interview.
